The Schréder Altra was designed in the 1990s by Schréder B.V (the Dutch subsidiary of the brand), it succeeded the VN, and its production ceased around 2017, despite the arrival of the Aresa in 2009.

The Altra consists of: a body made of painted grey injected aluminium alloy, a black polypropylene cover, a bowl made of polycarbonate (or methacrylate), and a white lacquered metal reflector supporting the socket. The electrical auxiliaries are fixed to the back of it.

The Altra range is available in 2 different sizes:

  • The Altra 2 : 670mm
  • The Altra 3 : 790mm

The Altra 2 features several lamps of different wattages:

  • The low pressure sodium lamps of 26W, 35W, 36W or 55W
  • The compact fluorescent lamps of 24W or 36W

The Altra 3 also features several lamps of different powers:

  • The low pressure sodium lamps of 26W, 35W, 36W, 55W or 66W
  • Compact fluorescent lamps of 36W, 40W, 55W or 80W

The Schréder Altra is quite rare in Belgium, found in only two provinces: Hainaut and West Flanders, where it has been seen in the municipality of Vleteren. This luminaire was only sold equipped with SOX lamps (low-pressure sodium) in the country.

Abroad, it achieved enormous success in its country of origin, the Netherlands, but also in Hungary where it was available in several variants with the Altra 21 and the KF36, as well as in the United Kingdom with only the Altra 22 and 32. A few rare copies were sold in Montenegro, Slovakia, and Germany.
